TikTok repost viewer

Understand how TikTok repost visibility works, how to view shared feeds anonymously, and how to manage your own sharing privacy settings.

Understanding the TikTok repost mechanism

Introduced to make content sharing more native, the repost button (represented by a yellow circular arrow icon) functions similarly to a Retweet on X. Rather than downloading and re-uploading a video (which violates watermarking rules), reposting registers a recommendation that pushes the video directly onto your friends' and followers' feeds.

Where reposts appear

Reposted videos show up in the For You Page (FYP) of your mutual followers with a small tag displaying your name and reposted. They also gather in your profile's dedicated Reposts tab.

Visibility constraints

Only mutual followers (friends you follow back) can view your reposted recommendations in their feeds. Standard followers cannot see them unless they check your profile tab directly.

The social psychology of TikTok reposting

Why has the repost button quickly become one of the most clicked buttons on the platform? Unlike saving a video to your phone and sending it via external chat apps, reposting maintains the organic lifecycle of the content. It keeps the original creator's attribution intact, directing all likes, comments, and analytics back to the source post.

Psychologically, reposting functions as a public endorsement. It signals to your close social circle that a video is worth their attention, whether it is an educational tech guide, a recipes tutorial, or an aesthetic design clip.

Can you see who reposted your content?

TikTok does not provide a master analytic panel that lists every single person who clicked the repost button on a video. You can see the total number of reposts next to the share icon, but individual identities are kept private to comply with user privacy regulations.

However, there are two primary methods to deduce who shared a video:

  • Comment indicators: TikTok often generates automatic comments inside the video feed indicating User Reposted. These are visible to anyone browsing comments.
  • Profile tab browsing: If a creator has left their Repost list set to public, you can navigate to their profile page and click the Reposts tab (usually located next to their Likes list) to view their full shared catalog.

Does checking someone's reposts notify them?

A major point of ambiguity for users is whether browsing a creator's Reposts tab triggers a notification.

The direct answer is no. TikTok does not send alert notifications for tab browsing. However, if you are actively logged into your TikTok account and visit their profile page to click that tab, you may show up in their profile views list (if both of you have the profile view history option enabled).

Using a read-only browser proxy like TTViewer bypasses this tracking. Because it handles the query via public endpoints without logging into an account, your browse session is completely decoupled from your identity, leaving no trace in their view history.

How to hide your repost history

If you want to prevent other users (including brand sponsors or competitors) from viewing the list of videos you have reposted, you can turn off public access in your account settings:

Step-by-step privacy setup

  1. Go to your TikTok profile and tap the three-line menu in the top right.
  2. Select Settings and Privacy.
  3. Tap Privacy and scroll down to the "Interactions" section.
  4. Tap Repost and toggle the option to **Off** to hide the tab from your profile.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Does viewing someone's Reposts tab notify them?

No. TikTok does not send notifications when you browse a profile's public Repost tab. However, if you are logged in, standard Profile View history might register. Using our anonymous viewer completely eliminates this risk.

Why is the repost button missing on some videos?

The repost feature is only enabled on public videos. If a video is set to 'Friends Only' or is uploaded by a private account, the yellow repost arrow will not be available. Some business accounts also disable reposting to protect their brand image.

How long do reposted videos stay on my profile?

Reposted videos will remain in your profile's tab until you manually undo the repost (by clicking the yellow arrow again) or if the original creator deletes the source video.
