From Recovery to Rehoming Three calves, three different beginnings, one final home. Ace Ventura came to us weak and emaciated, unable to stand. Duke of Gloucester arrived with clouded eyes, his view of the world unknown. And dear Spirit was found alone on the roadside, only hours old. Each calf faced their own individual challenges. Our first arrival was Ace Ventura, a poor skinny, parasite ridden calf who was too malnourished to support his own weight. Through days of rehabilitation, he slowly regained his strength and was able to find his feet again. Shortly after dear Spirit arrived, found only hours old on the side of the road. We rushed to provide life-saving colostrum, or liquid gold as many call it. Never to feel a sense of abandonment again, he formed a strong brotherly bond with Ace! As the weeks passed, Duke then entered our gates. With clouded eyes, unsure of how he sees the world. Veterinary assessments and eye treatments began, and as his eyes began to clear, a newfound vision of clarity broadened his horizon. He was soon introduced to his new friends, Ace and Spirit. What began as a shared pasture became a brotherhood. Spirit and Ace stepped gently into the roles of big brothers, guiding dear Duke with soft leadership and a protective presence. Now they walk forward into a loving forever home. Still side by side, as they have always chosen to be. It is because of your support that journeys and recoveries like theirs are possible. Happy April Fools’ Day, everyone! We are paws-itively certain we have some of the cheekiest animals here at Edgar’s Mission. Whether it’s a knocked-over wheelbarrow, missing gardening supplies or a stolen chaff bag, every day seems to bring a new surprise and a reason to smile. And honestly, we wouldn’t have it any other way. We are deeply grateful that the animals here feel so safe and at ease that they can let their playful, mischievous sides shine. Meet Porsche, the most endearing of little lambs born without hooves ❤️ Porsche arrived at Edgar's Mission in early July of this year, and is the embodiment of resilience, tenacity and sweetness. Not only was she born without hooves, Porsche faced another setback in life: losing her dear mumma on the very day they were to be surrendered to sanctuary. With her little stumps bloodied and raw from her roughly ten days of walking on the rough and frosty earth, Porsche’s determination to survive was as tough as those stumps are set to become. Porsche drove herself firmly into our hearts the moment we met. Parking herself there she now has us all at her beck and call. Sweet Porsche requires daily care. Until she's old enough for real booties, her bandages need to be cleaned and changed every day. Although Porsche is priceless, her veterinary costs are extensive. Yet our pledge to give her the best possible life remains. We are currently raising urgent funds to support the ongoing care and wellbeing of our lambs.
